Lore
The story so far
Where KARAFURU came from, what the colours mean, and where the story goes next.
The first colour
Before KARAFURU had a name, it had a problem — the world had gone grey.
Karafuru (カラフル) means colourful. It is a borrowed word, which is fitting, because the project was always about borrowing: a shade from one place, a shape from another, a feeling from a third, until the mix belonged to nobody and everybody at once.
The premise is simple. Colour is not decoration. It is the oldest language we have, older than writing, and the only one that needs no translation. A red is a red in every city on earth.
So: five and a half thousand speakers of that language, each saying something slightly different. Kuyaku, Torao, Shi’rai and a hundred other names, none of them saying quite the same thing twice.
The grey years
What happens to a colour project when the servers go dark.
Every project has a stretch it doesn’t put on the timeline. Ours was the one where the site went quiet and the answer to “what’s happening with KARAFURU” was, honestly, maintenance.
The infrastructure had grown ten heads. Each one needed feeding. None of them made anything anyone could look at.
Coming back meant cutting nine of those heads off and keeping the one thing that actually mattered: the work, and the people who held onto it while nothing was being posted.
That’s where the story picks up again.
